It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
